Endangered Islands
WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT
Although small island developing states (SIDS) produce only a negligible fraction of global greenhouse gas emissions, they are clearly among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, specifically due to their low-lying nature and limited financial resources to respond.
With current increasing emissions of greenhouse gases raising atmospheric concentrations and contributing significantly to global warming, many SIDS may be imperiled with complete inundation.
In some areas severe storms may threaten the livelihood of islanders well before the islands face inundation due to sea level rise. Even before some island nations are submerged, salt-water intrusion into their fresh water supplies may make them uninhabitable. Other island nations may find that the damage caused by increasingly severe storms may wreak havoc on their buildings, making it quite difficult for residents to make a living.
Because island nations are most vulnerable both to the impacts of climate change and to the ongoing stress of weather-related disruptions, YOUR support is vital in ensuring the continued livelihood of islanders. Climate Institute has entered into a partnership with Climate Care of UK for a EIC Carbon Emission Offset Program by which you can offset your emissions(cross link)and fund the renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the small island states.
